When you design around a brand, how you approach design changes because the brand creates a standard to follow. In other words, the real secret to succeeding with products isn't in slapping catchy designs on t-shirts and mugs...it's in creating a recognizable brand!

Excellent question! Brand-based designs are the SAME as regular designs used in ecom-based products with one HUGE distinction...ALL the branded designs fit into a cohesive, focused style! For example...let's say you LOVE cats and you want to create a line of branded, cat-related products. Brand-based designs make it EASY for your customers to see your products and immediately KNOW it is part of your brand because of the logo, the style, perhaps color choices, etc. Contrast THAT approach to just producing random cat designs that are all over the place. You MAY find a couple of winners here and there but there is nothing that lets your customer know that the designs are part of YOUR collection. They could belong to ANYONE. And, by the way, non-branded designs are MUCH easier to knock off by others...not good!

Within the context of EACH of these designs, there is a LOT of latitude for the types of related products we can create! But they ALSO open the door for new types of products that you MAY have not even considered! This goes WAY beyond simple t-shirts and mugs (although there ARE t-shirts and mugs to be designed in the brand lines).
